When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her study of marine biology in Anchorage in Alaska at the University of Alaska Pacific. Bossard began her career in the commercial seafood industry in 1999. At the time she was employed on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut boat, which was later transformed into a fishing tender. Bossard and Aritan have been married since 1993 and have come together to claim their place in their business. Both are advocates of saving and maximizing the use of sustainable resources within the fishing industry. In 2007, the mother of two young children Bella aged 3 and Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale seafood distributor named Otolith. Bossard along with her two children Andre 10 and Isabella 12 make their annual return for a visit to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to catch wild salmon in summer. In the course of two months, Bossard and Isabella will use hooks and lines to hunt for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their catch to local processors.
